 9 hari jelang pemutaran film yang tampaknya akan menjadi salah satu film TERBAIK SEPANJANG MASA, The Dark Knight. I Can't Wait! Banyak kritikus yang sudah menghadiri pemutaran perdana film ini mengatakan bahwa The Dark Knight pantas disejajarkan dengan The Godfather dan Lord of The Rings. Salah satunya adalah Slahshfilm.com yang sudah membuat jurnal 10 Reasons Why I Loved The Dark Knight. Bagi yang tidak mau terspoiler sama sekali, silahkan berhenti membaca sampai sini. Tapi kalau anda penasaran, silahkan dilanjutkan, menurut saya jurnal ini semakin membuat kita tidak sabar menonton filmnya, dan tentu saja membuat ekspetasi 100x lebih tinggi dibandingkan ekpestasi awal. Berikut jurnalnya : 10 Reasons Why I Loved The Dark Knight Posted on Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 at 11:13 pm by: Peter Sciretta I have been given the go ahead to review The Dark Knight, but this is the type of film that I need to see at least two or three times before attempting such a task. The film is so very expansive, so incredibly epic. I decided that instead of a full review, I will just share my first impressions. But lets first talk expectations. Going into 2008, I was looking forward to only a few films, The Dark Knight being one of them. As you probably already know, WALL-E was at the top of my list, and Pixar’s latest didn’t disappoint. I was very sure that WALL-E would end up being my favorite film of the year, and it is… errr WAS. That is until I saw The Dark Knight. I screened the film on Saturday night in Los Angeles, and now that I’ve had a few days to think about the film, I thought I would share my ten spoiler-free reasons why I believe that The Dark Knight is a masterpiece - an almost flawless comic book movie adaptation.
1. The Movie is Epic - The Dark Knight is not just a superhero movie. It is the first comic book adaptation to transcend the genre. Imagine one of the greatest crime thrillers of all time which just happens to have a guy who dresses in a bat costume and fights crime. Think Godfather 2 or Heat, with a insane terrorist who paints his face like a clown and goes around killing random people. It’s expansive in feel and tone. It’s the type of film which you make a point to refer to as a “film” instead of a “movie”. 2. Bigger, Better, Longer - I’ll admit that I wasn’t completely blown away by Batman Begins. Sure, it was the best Batman film to date, incorporating darker themes and a sense of realism that the franchise had never seen before. But Batman Begins is also not without its problems. I think even hardcore fans would agree that the film suffers from third act problems. The Dark Knight is bigger and better in every single way. The film is 152 minutes (two hours and thirty two minutes) long, and every second is gripping. Does it feel long? Yeah. But at the same time I wouldn’t have removed a thing. Every single second is necessary to tell this story. Nolan even keeps some plot developments off screen which resonate in various scenes throughout the film. 3. Heath Ledger - Some friends have expressed concern that the death of Heath Ledger will taint their Dark Knight viewing experience. It doesn’t, and here is why - Heath is amazing. From the first second he steps on screen you will forget that their is an actor behind the make-up. Heath doesn’t play The Joker, he IS the Joker. You will believe that a psychopath wearing clown makeup is terrorizing a whole city. The performance is Oscar worthy. What Anthony Hopkins did for Hannibal Lector, Ledger does for The Joker. 4. Two-Face - At the core this movie is not about Batman, or even The Joker, but instead about Harvey Dent, and his transformation into Two-face. In a way the story is almost a Shakespearean tragedy of a man who goes bad. The screenwriters play against the established conventions of Two-face’s origin story to give you something new, refreshing, and ultimately more authentic than the story presented in the comic books. You will believe that a hero becomes the villain. And you might also be shocked at how long the two-face character appears on screen. It’s not just a tease - you will get everything! His computer generated make-up is so gruesome and realistic looking, that I’m shocked the film was able to get a PG-13 rating. 5. The Empire Strikes Back - The Dark Knight is The Empire Strikes Back of comic book movies. It is dark, bleak, and realistic. Kids looking for a fun superhero movie need to look elsewhere. This is a multi-layered, authentic crime tale. There is more than one casualty, and it doesn’t exactly end on a high note. Fans will eat the ending up. After sitting in the theater for two and a half hours, it will leave you wanting more. 6. IMAX - If you don’t see this movie in IMAX than you haven’t seen the movie. A few of the action sequences and many of the establishing shots throughout the film were shot using IMAX cameras. The result is breathtaking. There is a sequence where Batman leaps off the top of a building (you’ve probably seen it in the trailers) and the camera pushes in. It’s so vivid and high resolution that it almost felt like it was part of one of those motion controlled theme park rides. Going into the screening, I thought the IMAX thing was probably more gimmick than anything else. Previous IMAX presentations involved up-converting the 35mm film image to fit on the IMAX screen. The footage shot with the IMAX camera is amazing. Even if you’ve seen a traditional IMAX movie in the past, you will be blown away by seeing a Hollywood action film on the big big screen. It makes you wonder why more Hollywood productions haven’t begun incorporating the IMAX camera. I wouldn’t be surprised if the inevitable third Batman movie wasn’t shot completely shot on IMAX cameras. 7. Gotham City - The extensive on location filming in Chicago adds to the authenticity of Gotham City. There is never a moment that you feel like you’re watching a bunch of actors on a Hollywood soundstage. 8. Characters - Every character that appears on screen has a history. Even when Nolan doesn’t show us this backstory - we see it. Even a corrupt cop that has two lines of dialogue has an extensive past, at least I’m convinced they do. The world is so full of rich three dimensional characters, some of which only appear on screen for brief moments. And some of the characters do have backstories which were provided in the extensive viral marketing campaigns. If you participated in the alternative reality game online, than you will get more out of the film as a whole. 9. The Bat-Pod - You will love how the Bat Pod is introduced in the film. 10. Nontraditional - The screenplay is both multi-layered and nontraditional. I was caught completely off guard at the many wonderful choices that Nolan and Goyer made in the script. You will wonder how they got Warner Bros to sign off on the screenplay, and I mean this in a good way. Characters that you expect to die might survive, and characters you expect to live will meet their ultimate demise. Even Two-Face’s origin is not exactly as you expect. That said, I advise you to stay as far away from spoilers as you can, because this is a film you want to experience for yourself in a packed IMAX theater on opening night. To me, The Dark Knight is an almost flawless cinematic experience. Is The Dark Knight one of the best films of all time? No. Where does it fit in my top 100? I’ll have to digest it a couple more times before my mind finds a suitable placement. Rewatchability is an important factor to me. While I do think this film will hold up to multiple viewings, I’m not sure that the expansive IMAX sequences (which are part of the reason why I loved this film) will translate in a home movie viewing environment. I do believe that The Dark Knight is the best comic book adaptation to date. For me it takes over the spot held by Spider-Man 2. For others it might replace Superman: The Movie, X-Men 2 or The Incredibles. And who knows, some people might be disappointed. Those expecting a fun movie filled with hope might come out sadly disappointed. I’m also not sure this film will play for younger audiences. And I’m not even going to pretend to know what women might think of it. I can only tell you my thoughts. I can’t wait for you guys to see the film so that we can have a discussion.
 Dalam waktu kurang lebih 9 jam lagi, seluruh masyarakat di dunia akan disuguhkan duel maha dasyhat antara tim Panser melawan tim Matador. Jerman vs Spanyol. Duel yang disebut-sebut sebagai duel ideal untuk menutup sebuah turnamen akbar yang telah mengjibur banyak masyarakat di dunia terutama Eropa dalam waktu sebulan ini.
Siapapun juaranya, akan dipastikan tidak akan ada kata mudah untuk kedua tim dalam proses meraihnya. Jerman maupun Spanyol telah menunjukkan kepada 14 tim yg sudah tersingkir sebelumnya, bahwa perjuangan mereka masuk ke babak akhir turnamen ini adalah suatu pencapaian yang tidak kebetulan. Mereka telah berhasil memperlihatkan kinerja tim yang solid sehingga babak final adalah ganjaran yang setimpal untuk hasil kinerja mereka. Kinerja tim, kata itulah yang terkadang suka dilupakan oleh banyak tim dalam mengarungi sebuah pertandingan. 4 tim yang maju ke babak semifinal Euro 2008 kalau kita lihat secara seksama mereka mempunyai benang merah yang sama, yaitu tim yang solid. Turki dengan semangat juang pantang menyerah walau harus mengandalkan tim lapis kedua bisa menyulitkan Jerman. Turki membuktikan kepada dunia bahwa sepakbola tidak harus melulu pemain bintang. Tim lapis kedua-nya itu hampir membuat Jerman melakukan babak perpanjangan waktu sebelum gol emas Phillip Lahm di masa injury time. Rusia yang sudah membukakan mata dunia bahwa tim dengan materi biasa-biasa saja mampu menghantam favorit kuat, Belanda dengan permainan tim yang sangat padu dan menawan. Andrei Arshavin dkk. mampu mengontrol pertandingan selama 120 menit. Suatu permainan yang mengejutkan dikarenakan Belanda dikenal sebagai tim tersolid sepanjang turnamen. Dan tentu saja kedua tim yang berlaga di final ini, mereka mempunyai kunci yang serupa, kinerja tim yang solid. Spanyol dengan lini tengahnya yang bisa dibilang adalah lini tengah hampir sempurna di dunia, ditambah dengan duo striker yang maut dan Jerman yang dhuni pemain-pemain yang mempunyai spirit tinggi, perpaduan emas antara generasi muda dan tua, bahkan semua pemain bisa dikatakan berbahaya, karena mempunyai ketajaman yang tinggi dalam mengetarkan gawang lawan. Jika syarat-syarat menjadi juara sudah dipunyai oleh Spanyol dan Jerman, hanya taktik dari pelatih manakah yang paling berhasil diterapkan di lapangan. Dan kalau taktik juga berimbang, tampaknya hanya nasib baik disertai keberuntungan yang akan membawa salah satu negara ini mengangkat trophy kejuaraan Eropa tahun 2008 ini.  Jurnal ini diambil dari Blog teman kampus saya, Galuh yg kebetulan berada di Unika Atma Jaya ketika demo dan kerusuhan berlangsung. Kami jelas tidak rela nama Mahasiswa dan nama Kampus, terutama Unika Atma Jaya menjadi rusak karena aksi demo yg sangat jelas ditunggangi oleh oknum-oknum yg tidak bertanggung jawab. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saya mahasiswa Atma Jaya yang ada di kampus saat kerusuhan terjadi hari ini. Saya sangat panik saat kejadian tadi, karena kami terjebak di situasi yang tidak mengenakkan. Tidak bisa meninggalkan kampus karena keamanan diluar kampus yang tidak terkendali. Hanya bisa menyaksikan para demonstran merusak dan meresahkan masyarakat. Para pelaku pengrusakan bukan dari kampus Atma Jaya, mahasiswa Atma Jaya sedang ujian akhir semester mulai hari senin kemarin. Para demonstran yang tidak seperti mahasiswa, baik tingkah, sikap dan tampilannya itu merangsek masuk ke atma setelah mereka menimpuki mobil polisi yang lewat dengan batu, botol dan lain-lain. Gerbang Atma Jaya sudah ditutup dari siang dan kami diinstruksikan untuk tetap didalam kampus dan jangan terpancing oleh provokasi pihak luar. Mereka tepuk tangan dan bersorak sorai begitu mereka berhasil menghancurkan dan membakar sebuah mobil. Mereka berteriak dan memaksa para penumpang di sebuah bus untuk turun setelah sebelumnya mereka menghancurkan kaca bus itu. Mereka seperti manusia yang tidak takut akan Tuhan. Mereka tidak punya hati dan tidak juga punya pikiran. Mereka menghancurkan apa yang mereka lihat tanpa memikirkan apa akibatnya. Bagaimana kalau ternyata ada keluarga mereka yang sedang berada di lokasi dan menjadi korban dari perbuatan mereka. Apa mereka tidak menyesal?? Kami cuma menjadi saksi perilaku anarkis dari mereka yang menyebut dirinya anak negeri dan mengatasnamakan rakyat. Mereka rusak fasilitas umum yang dibuat dari uang rakyat, mereka hancurkan mobil pemerintah yang dibeli dengan uang rakyat dan mereka meresahkan masyarakat. Mereka bukan penolong dan penyampai aspirasi rakyat, mereka perusak dan menyusahkan masyarakat. Jika mereka benar-benar mahasiswa, seharusnya mereka cukup belajar dengan benar dan menyelesaikan studi mereka. Cari pekerjaan yang baik, jadilah orang yang berhasil dan perbaikilah negara kita dengan cara yang benar. Saya menyesalkan kejadian yang terjadi hari ini. Jangan merusak negara ini lebih banyak lagi dan jangan mengatasnamakan kepentingan bangsa untuk melakukan tindakan anarki. Tolong sebarkan jurnal ini jika anda peduli!
 Tadi gak sengaja browsing2 di IMDB (Internet Movie Database), eh nemu informasi tentang film ini. Wahhh.. Ternyata kesuksesan Paris, je t'aime rupanya membuat para filmaker bersemangat untuk membuat sequel-nya atau bisa dibilang kota lanjutan dari Paris. Dan untuk film kedua, dipilih kota New York di Amerika Serikat. Membayangkan kota New York dan dipadukan oleh kisah cerita cinta yg terjadi di kota itu saya bisa tersenyum sendiri. Jadi mengingat film Serendipity, You've Got Mail dan tentu saja Home Alone 2. Jujur saja, ekspetasi saya tinggi terhadap film ini. Semoga bisa lebih baik dari Paris, je t'aime yg menurut saya gak keren-keren amat karena banyak cerita yg biasa saja. Melihat nama pemain dan sutradara yg terlibat, seharusnya film ini akan mudah mendapat rating tinggi dari pada kritikus ataupun penikmat film.  3 hari menjelang hajatan terbesar sepakbola Eropa, Euro 2008 yg untuk kali ini akan diadakan di dua negara, Austria dan Swiss. Mengingatkan saya kepada format piala dunia 2002, Jepang dan Korea, bahkan mengekor Asian Cup 2007 tahun lalu yg bertuan rumah 4 negara sekaligus.
Berbicara tentang hajatan akbar sepakbola, pasti berbicara juga tentang jutaan bahkan milyaran penggila sepakbola diseluruh dunia yg akan disibukkan oleh event empat tahunan sekali ini. Para pekerja kantoran pusing mengatur jam tidurnya agar urusan di kantor tetap fit sementara di rumah tidak mau kelewatan satupun pertandingan. Para businessman atau pengusaha harus pintar membagi waktunya agar urusan bisnis tidak tercampur dengan urusan sepakbola.. Para mahasiswa mulai mengatur jadwal agar tidak tertidur ketika diadakan kuliah pagi. Para adik-adik yg duduk di bangku sekolah ada yg senang ada yg merana. Yg sudah melaksanakan ujian bisa menjadikan Euro sebagai hiburan di kala liburan, sementara adik kelasnya, menggerutu karena harus merelakan kehilangan sebagian pertandingan karena harus belajar dan tidur demi ujian kenaikan kelas. Para pengganguran tentunya yg akan berbahagia karena bisa fokus menyaksikan turnamen ini secara utuh dari awal sampai final nanti. Para wanita, ibu-ibu, pacar-pacar, istri-istri yg tidak menyukai sepakbola tentunya harus rela pasangannya selingkuh selama sebulan ini. Saya sebagai salah satu bagian dari lingkaran penggila sepakbola tentunya juga repot dan pusing setiap menjelang hajatan akbar sepakbola. Jika saya dikelompokkan dalam kelompok diatas pada saat bisa masuk dalam kelompok mana saja kecuali pelajar dan wanita. Pekerjaan kontraktor di perusahaan ayah saya lagi sepi order, pekerjaan di bidang musik masih bisa diatur waktunya, dan pekerjaan utama saya saat ini adalah menyelesaikan Skripsi. Sebenarnya skripsi saya sudah memasuki tahap akhir, tinggal diperlukan sentuhan akhir, revisi sedikit maka saya sudah siap maju sidang, masalahnya ya ini.. Euro 2008. Saya tidak akan nekad memaksakan sidang dikala turnamen akbar ini, karena sudah pasti tentunya saya tidak bisa konsen dan fokus, saya juga mempunyai sedikit sejarah yg kurang baik dalam bidang pendidikan di setiap turnamen akbar sepakbola. Berikut fakta-faktanya : - Euro 2000 : Tidak terlalu berpengaruh, karena saya pada waktu itu masih SMU, dan seingat saya turnamen itu digelar pada saat saya liburan panjang. - World Cup 2002 : Turnamen diadakan dikala saya mengikuti bimbingan belajar untuk persiapan SPMB, pada saat itu pertandingan diadakan siang,sore sampai malam hari. Karena itu saya sering bolos bimbingan belajar karena paginya ngantuk, setiap malam tidak pernah belajar untuk persiapan SPMB karena sibuk menonton dan mengikuti perkembangan world cup. Alhasil ketika mengikuti ujian SPMB saya seperti kekurangan amunisi, yg ada diingatan saya hanya dua gol Ronaldo di final, serunya Turki vs Korea Selatan di partai perebutan tempat ketiga dan sensasi Senengal di Korea-Jepang kala itu. Saya gagal masuk UI. Haha. - Euro 2004 : Piala Eropa kedua saya yg berhasil saya ikuti dari awal sampai habis, dikala itu turnamen diadakan ketika saya mengikuti semester pendek atau padat. Saya mengambil dua mata kuliah. Dikarenakan pertandingan diadakan dini hari, saya jadi sering bolos kuliah pada paginya, untungnya bisa diabsenin jadi gak masalah, tapi tetap saja ujian nge-blank. Alhasil satu matakuliah dapet C (ini hoki karena dosennya dah pasti lulus kalo masuk terus), yg satu lagi gak lulus, dapet E. Hahaha. - World Cup 2006 : Turnamen diadakan lagi-lagi ketika saya mengikuti Semester Pendek. Walaupun saya tahu saya akan tidak fokus, saya tetap nekad ikut SP, dan gilanya lagi saya mengambil 3 matakuliah yg luar biasanya susah. Dalam hati saya, bisalah saya sesuaikan waktu nonton dan belajar untuk kali ini, gak terlalu excited ini sama WC 2006. Hasilnya ? Dugaan saya SALAH BESAR. Saya mengikuti full turnamen dari awal sampai habis. Dan nasib 3 matakuliah itu ? Hancur lebur. Saya kembali membakar uang orangtua. Nilai D-E-E menghiasi KHS saya, bahkan untuk satu matakuliah saya tidak mengikuti ujian karena ngantuk berat sehabis nonton babak perempatfinal. - Asian Cup 2007 : Yg ini paling istimewa, karena saya merasakan saya mendapat balasan yg setimpal atas kesetiaan saya mengorbankan apa saja demi sepakbola di tahun-tahun sebelumnya. Saya diterima kerja menjadi volunteer di turnamen ini. WOW ! Bekerja di sebuah turnamen yg sekelas dengan European Cup adalah mimpi yg menjadi kenyataan. Getting paid for watching football. Memang bekerja dalam bidang yg kita senangi adalah hal paling membahagiakan di dunia, saya menikmati setiap menit bekerja dalam event Asian Cup ini. Tapi adakah yg dikorbankan ? Ternyata ada ! Hahaha. Saya harus melewatkan satu ujian akhir yg ujung2nya saya bakal dapet E karena saya karena harus mempersiapkan pertandingan Indonesia vs Bahrain. Apakah saya menyesal ? Tidak sama sekali, karena jikalau saya datang pas ujian, saya toh tidak akan konsen dan sudah pasti blank dalam pengerjaannya, karena selain tidak belajar sama sekali, pikiran saya pasti melayang ke Senayan membayangkan atmosfir disana. Hahaha. - Euro 2008 : Demi menghindari hal-hal yg tidak diinginkan, tampaknya saya harus menunda sidang saya sampai selesai turnamen ini, agar semuanya berjalan dengan lancar, karena kalo saya nekad mau daftar sidang untuk bulan ini atau bulan Juli awal. Hmmm.. Saya ngeri membayangkannya. Hahaha. Karena pastilah saya tidak bisa fokus (itu udah jadi harga mati ! Haha). Jadi, selama EURO ini diharapkan saya bisa menyelesaikan skripsi saya, kemudian diacc, dan ketika selesai Euro baru saya mendaftar sidang, mudah-mudahan semuanya berjalan lancar. Doakan saya ya teman-teman. Hehehe. Itulah mengapa saya selalu mengatakan bahwa TURNAMEN SEPAKBOLA ITU RACUN ! Dibilang racun karena kalo saya biarkan terus menerus tanpa kontrol bisa membahayakan karir saya. Karena sepakbola telah mendarah daging dalam kehidupan saya, merupakan salah satu elemen terpenting dalam hidup. Bukan menjadi racun kecuali jika dalam beberapa tahun mendatang saya bisa bekerja dalam bidang persepakbolaan atau istilahnya getting paid for watching football. Tapi jika tidak, maka setiap turnamen pasti saya akan menulis jurnal seperti ini. Jika saya sudah bekerja secara tetap nanti, mudah-mudahan bos saya di World Cup 2010 adalah penggila sepakbola juga, jika tidak ? Repotlah saya. Hahaha.

NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday in a Manhattan apartment in what police sources are calling an apparent suicide or accidental overdose. He was 28. According to the New York Times, Ledger was found naked and unconscious with pills strewn all around him. Police sources told the Times that the death appeared to be a suicide or an accidental overdose. The Times initially reported that Ledger was found in an apartment owned by actress Mary-Kate Olsen, but a spokesperson for the actress, who is at the Sundance Film Festival, later told the Times the apartment was not Olsen's. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the apartment. The housekeeper, who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there, found him unconscious at approximately 3:30 p.m. ET, according to the New York Times. After receiving no response from the actor after shaking him, they called authorities. “We are investigating the possibility of an overdose,” Browne said. “There were pills within the vicinity of the bed.” A source told msnbc.com's Courtney Hazlett that Ledger had been turning down roles lately. The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for “Brokeback Mountain,” where he met actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn with their 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year. That’s right, if you can drive well in Jakarta, you can drive anywhere else in the world. But the converse is NOT always true.
Picture a typical situation on a bright sunny day in Jakarta with you on the steering wheel of a manual-geared Toyota Kijang. You are on your way from Sudirman to a meeting point at Kebayoran, which is starting in 30 minutes. The traffic jam is at its worst because it’s the peak hour of lunchtime + the end of school hours + rush hour for meetings. You know the fast lane is not always the best choice as the traffic in the slow lane usually slackens off after a major divergence. Thus aptly, you switch lanes from the slow to the fast lane and vice versa, with high skills and remarkable precision. Your intuition knows exactly when to speed up and slow down. You overtake the cars ahead that you deem hindering your movement, without any alarm of endangering all other road users. Horn and front lights are appropriately used every time you see vehicles ahead are closing by or switching to your lane. Just before the notorious roundabout, the slow lane, the fast lane, and the busway (yes don’t forget the big brother) converges, making the most chaotic and disorganized traffic mankind has ever defined. At any one random time, you could be in a situation where your car is surrounded by 4 motorcycles, on all 4 sides of your car. The one in the front doesn’t have a mirror. The one on your left has 3 persons on the seat. The one on your right has a fragile small boy clinging to his dad with feeble grip on his dad’s tummy. The one behind doesn’t have front lights. ALL of them do not wear helmets. Wrong decision and you are pretty much fucked, regardless who is blameworthy. But you are a virtuoso. You get yourself out of that situation with lovely maneuvers, without harming any of those 4 bikes. When you think you are out of the shit hole, somebody jaywalks across the road. Unconcerned and unaware of your speeding car. In a split of a second, you make an accurate decision between accelerating and slowing down. You take a deep breath. The road is tapering. Without any intention to decrease your speed, you ride past that road with adorable certainty and confidence. All of a sudden, from the front side of a parked bus at the side of the road, a ‘gerobak’ (cartwheel) emerges as it jolly moves across the street. Looking at the mirror, applying brake, but keeping eyes focused on the traveling cartwheel are all done in a simultaneous order, ensuring a smooth flow of the car. Finally you have arrived at your destination. But it doesn’t give you a relief yet. You are just about to be tested on your ultimate driving proficiency. You have to park your car, on a parallel parking on an inclining slope, in between 2 luxurious cars owned by an ex-Indonesian army chief. Drains (or in Indonesia we call it 'selokan/ got') are on both sides of the narrow slopes. Don’t forget, you drive a manual-geared vehicle. But again, and again, you succeed, because you drive really well in Jakarta, and you know no other drivers in the world can match your driving skills.

- started your first lesson on driving when you were in junior high school.
- have ever dented your father’s car and took it to ‘Ketok Magic’ without telling your dad.
- never know of any speed limit in Jakarta.
- know the time frame of ‘3-in-1’ and ‘one way only’ at certain locations in Jakarta.
- always keep at least Rp50,000 somewhere in your car (usually in the key pouch) in case shit happens when you break the law.
- have ever bargained with the police officers when you get fined.
- hate the motorcycles when you are in a car, but you would do the same anyway if you are on the bikes.
- have ever scoffed at other kids who drive better car. His automatic gear is the main reason why you think he can’t drive, and thus should never be allowed to go out in his fancy car.
- hate angkots and metrominis for their senseless driving.
- have ever bumped any types of public transport (angkot, kopaja, metromini).
- as of above, but you chase the bastard until he gives you a compensation even if he looks like ‘preman batak’ because you fear your dad more.
- usually have your first (and the subsequent ones, of course) driving license without going through any proper driving test.
- think that you can drive with your eyes closed in USA.
- always blame on anything else, but not your driving skills, when you actually have ever failed driving test abroad, because you think you have more skills than the tester based on your experience with the worst traffic in Jakarta.
- think that Singaporeans cannot drive a car, because 80% of the cars there are automatic.
- think that Singaporeans cannot drive a car because there are no slopes or undulating roads there.
- strongly agrees that any Singaporean who has ever failed a driving test should not even be allowed to sit next to the driver. That is just way too dangerous. Period.
- you understand these terms: 'jalan tikus', 'nitip sidang', 'polisi cepek', 'joki 3-in-1', 'sim tembak'
- strongly advocates the use of Indonesian driving license as a highest qualification for a driving permit that is recognized all around the world. Simply because we have the highest standard in ‘difficulty’ rating.

Brasilia: Iceland has overtaken Norway as the world’s most desirable country to live in, according to an annual U.N. table published on Tuesday that again puts AIDS-afflicted sub-Saharan African states at the bottom.
Rich free-market countries dominate the top places, with Iceland, Norway, Australia, Canada and Ireland being amongst the first five but the United States slipping to 12th place from eighth last year in the U.N. Human Development Index.
But the index, blending 2005 figures for life expectancy, educational levels and real per capita income, finds that all 22 countries falling into its “low human development” category are in sub-Saharan Africa, with Sierra Leone last.
In 10 of these countries, two children in five will not reach the age of 40, said the compilers at the U.N. Development Programme. Last year’s report said HIV/AIDS had a “catastrophic effect” on life expectancy in the region. The index ranks 175 U.N. member countries plus Hong Kong and the Palestinian territories. It does not include 17 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia, because of inadequate data.
Norway had held top spot for six years but was edged into second place by Iceland this year because of new life expectancy estimates and updated figures for gross domestic product, or GDP, the report said.
U.N. officials played down the significance of minor short-term shifts in the rankings including the slide in the U.S. position. They said if subsequent data for the year in question had been available for last year’s report, the United States would have been in 10th, not eighth place.
The United States scores high on real per capita GDP, which at $41,890 is second only to that of Luxembourg at $60,228, scoring relatively lower on life expectancy and was jointly last in the top 26 countries, along with Denmark and South Korea, at 77.9 years.
Japanese have the longest life expectancy at 82.3 years while Zambians the lowest at at 40.5 years.
The report said most countries had seen their human development index rise over the last 30 years, but in 16 it was lower than in 1990, and in three - the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Zimbabwe it continued to be lower than it was in 1975.
Per capita GDP is 45 times higher in Iceland than in Sierra Leone.The United Nations has published its human development index every year since 1990.

Kalo Africa kyknya udah bener-bener ga bisa diselamatkan deh, pendidikan disana juga kurang memadai, letak geographis-nya juga emang ga terlalu menguntungkan. Masih mendingan kita banget yang tinggal di Asia. Feel sorry for them.
